Job Summary

Wardenburg Health Services welcomes applications for a Medical Assistant. This position provides comprehensive health care, education, and customer service primarily to the student population. This may include care of CU Boulder faculty, staff and their dependents, and on urgent occasions, treatment to injured or ill University visitors. The Medical Assistant provides team based support to providers, improves efficiency and productivity to the medical clinic and SRHC. This position assists the provider (Physician/APN) to aide in clinic flow, productivity, and continuity of care to patients and CU Boulder community.

The Wardenburg Medical Clinic provides a wide range of health care services for students including, but not limited to: primary care for illnesses and injuries, as well as chronic conditions, physicals, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, allergy shots, vaccinations, travel health care, and concussion care.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Pod Based Provider Support/Patient Care
  • Interview patient for primary complaint, obtain appropriate vital signs and document pertinent medical history in the Electronic Medical Record during the patient intake process, to include but not limited to historical data collection of previous allergies; updating patient’s medication list, significant medical history, patient's family medical history and learning barriers.
  • Charge and chart for all procedures, treatments, and medications.
  • Implements provider's plan of treatment for patients of all ages primarily late adolescent and early adulthood population.
  • Assist in direct patient care procedures, performs phlebotomy, gives prescribed medications and immunizations.
    • Call-in prescriptions, complete prior authorizations, release of information, placement and follow-ups for referrals.
  • Stock the exam rooms and treatment rooms on a daily and as needed basis. This includes infection prevention and cleaning of the rooms between patients.


EMR Documentation

  • Review and lock all subjective notes during patient visits.
  • Document and charge in the EMR of all procedures, POC, treatments and medications given. The person performing the action is responsible for charting and charging at the time of care.


Ordering and Stocking Medical Supplies in Clinic and Pod

  • Observe stock levels of supplies in exam rooms, treatment room and store room, including but not limited to, medications, soft sterile supplies and sterile instruments and stock appropriately.
  • Ensure proper handling of sterile instruments and supplies.
  • The HCTs are also responsible for stocking of the treatment room. In down time, it is necessary for the HCTs to ensure proper stocking of the rooms and cabinets.
  • Deep cleaning of the patient rooms is an essential function of infection control and is the responsibility of the HCT.


What You Should Know

  • Knowledge of confidentiality guidelines is imperative.
  • Basic medical terminology required.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA requirements.


What We Can Offer

The anticipated starting salary is $17.50/hour if certified; $17.00/hour if not yet certified.

What We Require

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program from an accredited institution by date of hire and eligibility to obtain Medical Assistant registration/certification within six months of hire.
  • BLS certificate (upon hire or can be obtained within three months of hire).
  • Basic functional computer skills (experience of Windows based systems).

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Active Medical Assistant registration or certification such as:
    • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) and proof of current membership from American Medical Technologists (AMT)
    • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) and proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
    • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) and proof of current membership from National Health Career Association (NHA)
    • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) and proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT)
  • Experience and knowledge in Medicat (EMR) Experience and knowledge in front and back office procedures.
  • Experience working in a medical clinic.
