Job Summary

The College of Music at the University of Colorado Boulder seeks a distinguished performer and teacher of trumpet. The search for a full-time, tenure-track faculty appointment will commence in August of 2018. The position will be appointed for a fall 2019 start date.

Who We Are

The College of Music supports four full-time brass faculty and additional adjunct instructors when needed. Comprised of approximately 20 graduate and 50-60 undergraduate brass majors, the brass department offers studio instruction, chamber music coaching, and courses in brass repertoire and pedagogy to students pursuing the following music degrees: BA, BM in Performance, BME, MM in Performance, MM in Performance and Pedagogy, and DMA in Performance and Pedagogy. The College of Music also supports an active Graduate Brass Quintet. The collegial climate within the brass department and College of Music as a whole, reflects a genuine respect among faculty with the unified goal of providing a nurturing and supportive environment for the students.

The College of Music offers degree programs in Performance, Jazz Studies, Composition, Theory, Musicology, Ethno-Musicology, and Music Education. CU Boulder is located in one of the most picturesque and desirable geographic locations in the country, within easy driving distance of a major metropolitan area and the Rocky Mountains. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Teach applied trumpet and related courses in the brass department, maintain an active career as a performer/scholar. Serve on graduate committees and supervise graduate theses and projects. Actively participate in regional and national recruiting, student advising, and other College and University service activities as appropriate. The final assignment of duties will be based on the needs of the department and qualifications of the candidate.

What We Require

The successful candidate will be an exceptional artist and pedagogue on trumpet with demonstrated excellence in teaching and a successful record of professional performance experience. An earned doctorate in Trumpet Performance or the equivalent in professional experience is required.

What We Would Like You To Have

The College of Music is also interested in artists with innovative and entrepreneurial approaches to their teaching and performing careers that could assist students in preparing for success in the 21st century. Expertise in, and/or potential to interface with a variety of audiences including school and studio teachers, pre-collegiate students, and audience members is recommended. College teaching experience is preferred.
