Job description

The University of Kentucky HealthCare Insurance Authorization team is seeking an Insurance Authorization Specialist. This position will work with third party payers and providers to ensure payment of tests and procedures prior to administration of test and/or procedures. Duties for this position include: confirming all necessary information needed to properly perform and identify billing information needed to maintain compliance with institutional, state and federal practices. This position will work with third party payers and providers while obtaining and sharing current guidelines. Basic coding knowledge and proficiency in medical terminology is recommended, and excellent customer service skills are required.

Physical Requirements

Repetitive motions associated with typing and phone communications; occasional need to lift heavy objects, typically CRT screen.


Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm


Must have knowledge and experience in medical coding (ICD-10 and CPT) as well as medical terminology. Excellent communication skills and the ability to multi-task and stay organized in a fast-paced environment are needed, as well as knowledge of the insurance authorization process. This position requires exceptional customer service skills.

Preferred Education/Experience

Associate degree in a healthcare related field and at least five years of healthcare employment experience.
