(Job #18-84) Accounting Technician I, $2,710-$4,763/month. Appointments are typically made at the beginning of the salary range. This is a full-time, benefited, non-exempt, 12-month position with a one-year probationary period in the Accounting Unit of Financial Services.

Position Summary:
Under the lead oversight of the Controller, the incumbent will perform a variety of general office, clerical, and accounting related duties in support of the Financial Services Accounting Department. The Position requires excellent attention to detail as the incumbent will be responsible for maintaining files, entering data, and reviewing documents for accuracy.


Duties:
The incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
  • Compile and review financial documents for accuracy, completeness, validity, and adherence to standards
  • Make mathematical calculations
  • Update and maintain spreadsheets (including entering, sorting, and calculating) and run and export queries and reports
  • Maintain files and records, and reconcile account balances
  • Compute and post numbers rapidly and accurately
  • Provide input to the modification and documentation of established procedures based on precedent and university policies
  • Communicate established university policies and procedures to faculty, staff, and the general public, referring them to the appropriate staff member when more extensive interpretation is required


    Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications: Equivalent to one year of clerical accounting or financial record-keeping experience OR any equivalent combination of education and experience which has provided the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below.

  • Read and write English at a level appropriate to the position
  • Work comfortably with frequent interruptions and changing needs within a busy office
  • Operationalize sustainability concepts (economy, society, environment) into all aspects of performing job duties


    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using PeopleSoft
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat Pro DC

    New faculty employees hired by the CSU for the first time who first become CalPERS members on or after July 1, 2017 are subject to a 10-year vesting period for retiree health and dental benefits.
