ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF TROMBONE

                                                                FULL-TIME TENURE TRACK

DATE OF APPOINTMENT: August 16, 2019 (Classes begin August 21, 2019)

JOB DESCRIPTION: A full-time, nine-month, tenure-track appointment. The primary assignment is trombone studio and ensemble teaching to undergraduate and graduate students. Additional teaching responsibilities may include other assignments according to the needs of the School of Music and the abilities and interests of the candidate. Participation in School of Music activities, attracting and retaining trombone students, and faculty governance is required. The candidate will be required to maintain a professional profile through performances, recordings, publication, presentation, scholarship, and/or research/creative activity. Active participation in professional organizations in the field is expected.

QUALIFICATIONS (must be met by the time of appointment): The successful candidate must be a versatile performer and teacher with significant professional experience, including a minimum of two years of successful studio teaching at the collegiate level. The candidate should also be able to exhibit a mastery of fundamental brass performance techniques and a broad knowledge of traditional trombone literature. A demonstrated ability to teach jazz improvisation, courses/ensembles in jazz, commercial music, music entrepreneurship, or music industry is desired. A Masters degree is required, and a completed doctorate in music or equivalent professional experience is preferred. The School of Music seeks a candidate who will demonstrate exemplary communication skills, collegiality, and the ability to contribute to the intellectual and cultural life of the University.
