Department of Economics, Finance, and Accounting

Position Description: Full-time, tenure-track or temporary position. The Department of Economics, Finance, and Accounting invites student-oriented practitioners and scholars to apply for this position in its accounting program. Through its unique curriculum, graduates of the program not only learn the discipline of accounting, but are prepared for the practice of accounting.  Fort Hays State University is a teaching and service focused institution and the primary mission of the Economics, Finance, and Accounting Department is to provide quality instruction.  Class sizes are small and we place a premium on quality teaching.  We seek applicants who enjoy being in the classroom, who will engage and challenge students, and who have a passion for teaching.  We recognize expertise in all its forms, whether through advanced graduate work or extensive professional experience and we therefore encourage practitioner-scholars to apply.

Minimum Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include a master’s degree in accounting with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in accounting or an MBA degree. Applicants with an MBA degree must hold the CPA credential and have at least three years of relevant professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Preferred qualifications include a conferred PhD (or DBA) with a concentration/specialization in accounting or individuals at ABD status who are within one year of completing the degree. The CPA credential with four or more years of relevant professional experience is preferred.  Preference will also be given to applicants with teaching experience (both on-campus and online) related to U.S. GAAP.

Responsibilities: This is a nine-month, tenure-track or temporary position located on the Hays, Kansas campus, relocation is required.  The candidate accepted for this position will be expected to teach 12 credit hours per semester at the undergraduate level in accounting in both lower and upper division (may include both on-campus and online) courses.  The primary teaching areas are financial and managerial accounting.  Other areas of teaching interest will be considered. The selected candidate will stay current in the field through active research and practice and will participate in departmental and university activities.

About the Department:
The Department of Economics, Finance, and Accounting is one of four departments in the Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship at FHSU and offers outstanding undergraduate and graduate instruction in the accounting, economics, and finance disciplines. Currently, the degree and majors offered by the department are a B.B.A. in Accounting; a B.B.A. in Accounting with a concentration in public accounting, a B.B.A. in Finance, a B.B.A. in Finance with concentrations in banking, economics, and financial planning; and a B.B.A. in International Business and Economics.
