The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is seeking applications for an Accounting Manager for the Financial Services department. This is a full-time, permanent staff position. 

Purpose of the Position: This position reports to the Controller and manages two areas –eCommerce and Business Process – with a total staff of approximately 4.5 FTE.  Lead strategies related to compliance, internal control, and business process management for all financial processes. Manage and implement compliance measures for state and system requirements, Red Flag Rules, internal controls, and finance-related export controls. Spearhead business process documentation efforts; coordinate training efforts; assist Controller with developing KPIs, benchmarking measures, and adoption of industry best practices; and help manage internal audits for the Controller's Office. Oversee the University’s strategies, policies, people, processes, technologies, compliance, controls, and reporting related to eCommerce operations.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or other degree closely related to the area of assignment with twelve hours of accounting and six years of progressive accounting experience, three of which must have been supervisory in nature.

Essential Job Duties: Maintain and apply extensive knowledge (and demonstrate commitment to continuous learning, self-awareness, and performance) in the areas of financial compliance, eCommerce, internal controls, information security, finance-related technologies, business process management, and process improvement best practices and methodologies. Maintain working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, reporting, and standards relevant to Financial Services operations.

Direct management of the eCommerce and business process units. Independent of direct supervision, ensure integrity of our eCommerce program and of financial information through data analysis and other monitoring activities; and actively manage and prioritize business process projects. Incorporate risk assessment into business processes when implementing/analyzing compliance requirements; ensure sound eCommerce program, which requires understanding of PCI compliance, business needs, and available technology and security measures. Manage complex work situations and actively lead staff. Develop/maintain goals and metrics to measure efficiency, ROI, compliance, etc.

Lead and provide critical project management support, process improvement expertise, and appropriate resources to business process initiatives and technology projects for Financial Services. Actively participate in and devote resources to key technology projects and system upgrades. Recommend modifications to existing systems and processes as needed to facilitate program goals. Implement solutions as needed, which may include implementation of certain technology and collaboration with IT and Financial Systems Support, as well as risk assessment, measuring compliance with materiality and business process management. Track outstanding projects and see them through to completion.

Lead Controller's Office communication and outreach efforts and recurring compliance tasks. Communicate complex situations, processes, actions, and interpretations of rules and regulations internally/externally as needed. Ensure that fiscal rules/policies are communicated in a way that facilitates correct interpretation. Develop and administer campus-wide training and information sessions.

Additional Duties: Serve as subject matter expert/technical resource for customers. Lead a customer service culture. Communicate strategically and collaboratively: lead administration of training sessions, key communications via listservs, and collaborative meetings with other departments.

Preferred Qualifications: Master of Accounting, Business Administration, or equivalent degree. A CPA may take the place of a Master's degree. Experience in higher education and/or complex institutions and/or governmental organizations. Experience preparing financial statements and/or other professional accounting experience. Business Process Management and/or Process Improvement certification and/or training. Advanced skills with spreadsheet and word processing software, and intermediate skills with workflow software.

Strong supervisory and leadership skills with a focus on creating a team that operates with the highest level of integrity and service and in the best interest of the University. Ability to lead. Strong analytical skills to evaluate, assess, and develop accurate decisions and recommendations. Excellent oral and written communication skills needed to effectively convey messages to varied audiences, including senior management and campus customers. Ability to handle multiple priorities effectively to ensure projects are delivered timely, accurately, and professionally. Ability to collaborate and foster teamwork across departments. Innovative, resourceful, and results driven.
