The Postdoctoral Research Associate – Hydrodynamic/Water Quality Modeling position will conduct basic and applied research for the development and application of numerical models to estuaries to investigate the impact of hydrodynamics on estuarine ecosystems. Research activities will contribute to development of hydrodynamic/water quality models for Virginia estuaries. The Postdoctoral Scholar will join a project focused on studying interactions between hydrodynamics and water quality and estuarine restoration.
Required QualificationsEDUCATION:
At the time of appointment, the applicant should have obtained a Ph.D. or equivalent in ocean sciences, environmental science, earth sciences, or a related field.
COMPETENCIES/EXPERIENCE:
- Strong quantitative skills with numerical models and / or other scientific programming.
- Working knowledge using PC or a LINUX platform, and FORTRAN and MATLAB etc.
- Broad knowledge of estuarine and coastal systems.
- Knowledge of hydrodynamic or water quality modeling
COMPETENCIES/EXPERIENCE:
- Demonstrated skills and experience in numerical modeling.
- Knowledge of eutrophication processes, phytoplankton dynamics, and water quality in aquatic system
- Familiarity with research and issues within estuaries and coastal embayments
- Experience in research within estuarine or coastal embayments
- Experience with EFDC/ICM/SCHISM models
- Experience with water quality modeling
- Experience with interpretation of estuarine observational data.
