Position Summary: Carolina Demography is a unit of the Carolina Population Center that translates demographic data and analysis into specific usable information to support decision-making, planning, and program evaluation throughout North Carolina. Carolina Demography clients include local governmental agencies, educational institutions, business and non-profit organizations and the media. The Carolina Demography Research Associate will serve as a scholar/subject matter expert acting as contributor or lead analyst for research projects related to post-secondary education in North Carolina. The person will contribute to identification of potential projects, research design, data collection, statistical analysis, reporting and dissemination of research findings through various media. The position will focus initially on research concerning the North Carolina education pipeline from high school through post-secondary institutions and its relationship to individual economic opportunity and the state's forecasted employment needs.

Education Requirements: A Master's degree from an accredited institution in demography, sociology, education, public policy or another related social science area.
Qualification and Experience: Required: Excellent English writing skills and oral communication skills; ability to write and communicate using clear, concise, nontechnical language. Demonstrated ability to use statistic software such as STATA and/or SAS. Demonstrated ability in analyzing complex data sets. Demonstrated expertise in post-secondary education and institutional research. Ability to identify and work with local experts and collaborators. Ability to lead complex projects. Experience with presentation and data visualization development. Preferred: Familiarity with North Carolina educational systems and policies. Experience designing and querying relational databases such as MySQL. Familiarity with Tableau Public or similar data visualization software.
