Assistant Teaching Professor Position in Counseling Psychology

As part of our recently developed Strategic Plan and our commitment to high-quality graduate education, the University of Missouri (MU) College of Education is committed to strengthening its focus on Counseling Psychology. We are searching for an individual to fill a non-tenure track, 9-month, faculty position who shares the College's commitment to excellent teaching, exceptional service to students and the profession, and to continuous quality improvement in an environment of civility and respect.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Counseling Psychology or a related field by the time of appointment (anticipated September 1, 2019)
  • Experience teaching graduate courses in Counseling Psychology or related fields
  • Licensed or license-eligible (pending state-specific requirements) as a psychologist in the State of Missouri
  • Strong multicultural/cross-cultural competencies


Candidates will be evaluated on the following factors:

  • Potential as a leader in coordinating clinical training in the program (strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills)
  • Strong teaching ability, and ability to teach graduate courses in Counseling Psychology, consistent with program and departmental instructional needs
  • Ability to advise and mentor masters and doctoral students
  • Ability to provide clinical supervision to graduate students in the Counseling Psychology program
  • Ability to provide service to the program, department, college, and the profession
  • Commitment to multicultural/cross-cultural training and demonstration of multicultural/cross-cultural competencies

This position is in the Department of Educational, School, and Counseling Psychology (ESCP).

About ESCP: ESCP offers doctoral degrees in Educational Psychology, School Psychology, and Counseling Psychology. Master's and Specialist degrees are offered in Educational Psychology, School Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Counseling, and Career Counseling. The APA-accredited Counseling Psychology doctoral training program emphasizes a scientist - practitioner model of training. With 65 years of continuous APA accreditation and being consistently ranked as one of the top Counseling Psychology doctoral programs in the country, we offer the M.Ed. (in school counseling, career counseling, sport psychology, and a dual degree Master's program with National Taiwan Normal University). We also have successful online programs including the Master's and Educational Specialist in Mental Health Practices in the Schools, a M.Ed. in Positive Coaching, and certificates in positive psychology and multicultural education. The successful candidate will join a vibrant team of 7 core faculty and 2 non-tenure-track faculty. Our doctoral students are highly diverse with over 60% racial ethnic minority, international, or LGBT individuals. The program is affiliated with the Missouri Prevention Center, the Coalition for Cultural Competency as well as the MU Career Center, Counseling Center, Student Health Center, and Thompson Center for Autism & Neurodevelopmental Disorders, and has an award-winning national and international reputation in multicultural and cross-cultural work.

About the College: The College of Education is ranked among the top doctoral granting colleges of education in the country. Today, the College has a student population of approximately 900 undergraduates and 1,400 graduate students, and over 100 faculty. The College is financially well positioned to invest in innovation. Annual expenditures for externally funded projects are approximately $20 million with funded projects in research, instruction and public service. Our research portfolio has increased significantly in recent years, and is poised for continued significant strategic growth. The College is a leader on the campus and is nationally recognized for its distance and online education programs.
