The University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC) is located in the cultural district of Fort Worth, Texas. UNTHSC is nationally recognized for its medical school, graduate student education, health professions, pharmacy, and public health programs. The Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience is internationally recognized and committed to: biomedical research, education of future health care providers, graduate training, and community outreach. The P&N department is faculty home to the two primary research institutes which support and organize focused cutting-edge translational multidisciplinary research efforts in neurodegenerative disease (Institute for Healthy Aging) and visual sciences (North Texas Eye Research Institute, NTERI).

Position Details
The North Texas Eye Research Institute at University of North Texas Health Science Center is seeking to hire a Research Scientist to join our team. Responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

* Under direct supervision, use fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures to perform routine scientific research tasks requiring application of established techniques, procedures, and criteria.
* Capacity of reprogramming patient-specific dermal fibroblasts and keratocytes to induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs).
* Knowledge of differentiating hiPSCs to retinal ganglion cells, other neuronal subtypes and generation of 3D retinal organoids from patient specific stem cells.
* Developing a range of novel glaucoma therapeutics for neuroprotection.
* Extensive experience in animal models of glaucoma.
* Knowledge of perfusion organ culture systems and utilization of therapeutic interventions.
* Ability to employ perfusion chamber system for translaminar pressure modulation.
* Competency in correcting mutations in patient-specific hiPSCs with CRISPR-Cas9 based genome editing.
* Application of gene therapy to overcome defunct protein in patient-specific retinal cells.
* Performing RNA-Seq analysis on various neuronal subtypes subjected to different pathogenic conditions.
* Identifying and validating AAV2 therapies for neuroprotection & regeneration in vivo.
* Analyzing Bioinformatic analysis of microarray gene expression datasets.
* Utilizing instrumentations like Nanodrop & Agilent Chip systems for QC.
* Tissue engineering 3D collagen corneas with corneal keratocytes, epithelial and endothelial cells.
* Utilizing confocal, TIRF, fluorescence microscopy to image 3D hydrogels and cells.
* Performing basic molecular techniques like PCR, qPCR, western blots and IHC.
* Ensuring proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
* Maintaining currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and/or systems.
* Designing, performing, and/or overseeing experiments and data collection to ensure data integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance.
* Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.

Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. degree and one year of related research experience.

Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:

* 3 years postdoctoral experience.
