General Description

College of the Sequoias Community College District is seeking a full-time tenure track position in the Education Department. This position will begin August 2019.

Job Duties
The primary responsibility is to teach education courses in accordance with established course outlines and maintain a strong program for students majoring in liberal arts. This position will also provide leadership for the continued development and growth of the Education Department including student recruitment, program coordination, site placements and diverse student placements.

Duties also include:

• Assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher order thinking skills among students through appropriate assignments and activities in one-on-one, classroom, and distance mediated instructional settings.
• Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, other institutions of higher education, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills.Track student success and transfer.
• Refer students to support services, programs, resources, and other professionals as appropriate.
• Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting course objectives and student learning outcomes through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations.
• Provide feedback in a timely manner to student inquiries in class, online, or during established office hours.
• Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes to maximize student learning in alignment with department, college, and district goals.
• Maintain current, accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, student academic progress, course curriculum, and student learning outcomes; prepare and submit data and reports related to course and student progress in a timely manner.
• Evaluate and select instructional materials such as textbooks, manuals, software, and tools in collaboration, as appropriate, with discipline faculty.
• Utilize the college curriculum processes to revise and update course content and materials of instruction in accordance with new theory, application, and industry developments within the education field.
• Facilitate education grant programs with transfer institutions and other organizations as appropriate.
• Apply for and utilize vocational support resources and funding as appropriate to assist student learning and experiences in the education field.
• Maintain, revise and facilitate appropriate sites for student observation experiences. Observe students at field sites as needed.
• Participate in department, division and campus governance and leadership activities, such as committees, task forces, meetings and similar events.
• Work with the college CTE processes and events as appropriate.
• Serve as the liaison to CSU Fresno Liberal Studies program.
• Collaborate and coordinate with counseling and other campus departments teaching in the Liberal Studies program.
• Investigate and develop student cohort approaches as appropriate.

Participation in the governance of the District by way of committee assignments is expected. Other responsibilities include maintenance of a number of office hours, full participation in departmental responsibilities and the willingness to create and/or participate in and sustain an atmosphere of equality, which is respectful of diversity campus wide.


Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The candidate must meet the following criteria.

• Master's degree in Education OR
• The equivalent AND
• Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic social, economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

The Consumer Family Studies Division, Education Department is looking for evidence of the following:

General
Connections with the local school districts.
K-12 teaching experience.
Ability to work with computers and other technologies to provide high-quality instruction.
Evidence of ability to use a variety of teaching strategies and assessment methods and educational technology to support leaning and encourage retention while successfully challenging a diverse student population.
Knowledge of and experience with the uses of educational technology in teaching.

Service
Assume leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole.
Experience working collegially and collaboratively within the college community.
Participation in department, division, college committees and participatory governance activities.

Teaching
Community college teaching experience in the area of education.
Knowledge of and/or recent experience with community college funding sources, especially vocational (Career Technical Education) funding.
Experience teaching in a Hispanic Serving Institution and serving disproportionately impacted groups.
Ability to utilize a teaching pedagogy to enhance the learning experience of vulnerable students.
Ability to develop and maintain all education curriculum.
