Purpose of Job
A visionary, the Director, Graduate Nursing Programs/Manager, ASU Family Clinic, will be a leader in the use of on-line course format to direct the graduate program to the level of national prominence.
Scope of Responsibilities
The Director, Graduate Nursing Programs/Manager, ASU Family Clinic, is a key administrator in the SON. The incumbent will have primary responsibility for providing innovative leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating graduate programs in the SON. The Director of Graduate Nursing Programs/Manager, ASU Family Clinic works collaboratively with administrators and faculty in assuring the provision of high-quality academic programs. This incumbent will assume overall responsibility for the implementation, delivery, coordination, and supervision of services provided in the ASU Family Clinic. Evaluation of the faculty role and the administrative role are separate and are conducted in compliance with existing college processes. The Director of Graduate Nursing Programs/Manager, ASU Family Clinic reports to the Dean of the School of Nursing.
Essential Job Functions
1. Provides leadership in the ongoing development and implementation of strategic and operational plans to achieve the vision, mission, goals, and objectives of the graduate nursing programs within the SON.
•Serves on the graduate curriculum committee.
•Develops and implements an effective system of recruitment, advisement, orientation, and matriculation for graduate students.
•Corresponds and meets with prospective students and applicants during the academic year and summer, and coordinates on-campus visits within the department (e.g., faculty interviews, tours, meetings with current students).
•Manages (with departmental secretary and Graduate Studies Office) all inquiry and application materials and monitors application processing during the academic year and summer.
•Decides on formal recommendations for admission or rejection of new students into the program(s) (with faculty committee and Dean, according to department practice), and coordinates those decisions with Graduate Studies Office; finalizes composition of incoming classes.
•Handles graduate student academic leave of absence requests, petitions, and grievances in accordance with established policies.
•Revises existing curricula and course offerings as needed in consultation with faculty, and leads curricular innovations.
•Corresponds with the Graduate Studies Office regarding active students as needed (e.g., changes of grade, status changes, grade extensions, requests for withdrawal).
•Supervises comprehensive exams and/or other capstone experiences (e.g., thesis, final project), according to department practice.
•Ensures accuracy of printed and online materials and information about the program(s) (Graduate Catalog, department materials, program website).
•Recommends candidates for graduation to the SON Dean.
•Proposes new graduate programs (e.g., certificate programs, BSN to MSN programs);
•Coordinates and facilitates outreach graduate education.
•Writes grants to support curricular and student development as appropriate.
2. Collaborates with the Dean to develop and implement an annual plan for teaching workload responsibilities in all graduate programs.
3. Provides consultation to the Dean on a regular basis regarding programs strengths/weaknesses; student feedback, student-faculty concerns/issues, and enrollment.
4. Recruits, interviews and recommends prospective core and adjunct faculty and staff.
5. Assumes responsibility for the evaluation of all programs/courses, faculty engaged in teaching within the graduate programs, and affiliated support staff.
6. Assures the effective development and operation of the graduate nursing department programs.
7. Serves as role model and mentor for faculty and staff in areas of best practices, accreditation, customer service, communication, and professionalism.
8. In collaboration with the Director, Center for Accreditation, Assessment, Compliance and Evaluation Management, assures that all evaluation and assessment data points for graduate programs are collected and analyzed, with data outcomes shared with appropriate committee(s), the Dean, and the faculty.
9. Participates in the overall operation of the SON
•Participates in the development of planning documents.
•Participates in the planning and management of the fiscal resources allocated to the graduate programs.
•Prepares and/or contributes to reports and records related to academic programs.
10. May assume responsibility for the administration of the SON in the Associate Dean and/or Dean’s absence.
11. Other duties as assigned by the Dean.

•Serves as a resource person for faculty and students.

1. Responsible for the operations, staffing, direction, and administration of the ASU Family Clinic and Mobile Health Unit.
2. Assumes overall responsibility for oversight and management of the clinical services provided by the interdisciplinary team (IDT) within the ASU Family Clinic and Mobile Health Unit.
3. Collaborates with the Dean in assuring the fiscal management of the ASU Family Clinic.
•A master’s degree in a nursing and an earned doctorate in nursing or related field;
•Eligible for academic appointment to assistant/associate professor or professor rank;
•Experience in academic administration;
•Experience teaching at the master’s degree level or above;
•A program of research as evidenced by scholarly publications; and
•National and international service.
Licensing and Certifications
•Eligible for registered nurse licensure in Mississippi and other states as needed.
•National Certification in area of advanced specialization.
