Occupational Summary:

Director for Davison Club & Special Gifts is primarily responsible for the identification, qualification, solicitation and stewardship of leadership annual, special and major gifts to the School of Medicine. This position will focus on donors and rated prospects with a capacity rating of $25,000 to $99,999 and on donors who are already giving $1,000 or more annually. This position will also focus on building higher levels of participation in the Davison Club, on upgrading consistent donors to higher levels of annual giving, and to introduce and expand leadership annual gifts of $10,000 or more. The purpose of this position is to expandleadership annual giving and identify major gift and planned giving prospects for the School of Medicine. This position will collaborate with the reunion giving team to build relationships with alumni during and between the reunion cycles and to secure multi-year annual giving pledges to help grow the annual giving program. This position reports to School of Medicine Director of Constituency and Pipeline Development.

Work Performed:

Fundraising: 80%
Assist in strategic planning for School of Medicine Development Davison Club and Special Giving programs, collaborating productively with the major gifts, annual giving and reunion giving staff to increase major, special, planned and leadership annual gifts to the School of Medicine. Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospective and current donors tothe School of Medicine in support of School of Medicine unrestricted and scholarship funds as well as other School priorities. Develop and implement goals and strategies to increase the number of donors and dollars raised, meeting or exceeding annual goals. Establish systems for tracking and evaluating success of Davison Club and Special Giving. Develop and manage a portfolio of 100-150 leadership annual giving and special giving donors. Requires frequent travel (12-18 trips annually to assigned regions).

Volunteer Management: 10%
Ensure frequent, informative, and consistent communication with Davison Club president and DavisonClub committee members, and work with those volunteers to expand and enhance opportunities to engage and inspire Davison Club members.

Program Management: 10% Work with the major giving team to identify and develop strategies for major gifts to the School of Medicine. Identify potential prospects outside of assigned region and provide names to appropriate development colleagues for cultivation and solicitation. Develop and maintain productive relationships with constituents and related departments including Planned Giving, Alumni Affairs, Stewardship and Special Events, Research, Communications, Alumni and Development Records, and the central Duke University Development and Alumni Affairs programs. Maintain general knowledge of fund raising best practices, current tax laws, investments and planned giving opportunities; use knowledge in prospect cultivation and solicitation. Identify and participate in special events, recognition and stewardship programs as appropriate. Assist with preparation for School of Medicine special events and volunteer meetings. Attend and assist with donor and alumni events. Partner with colleagues to ensure appropriate and timely stewardship for Davison and Special Gifts donors. Write or assist in drafting proposals, newsletters, brochures, pamphlets, articles, honor rolls, and other materials as necessary; assist with publicity arrangements on important gifts, programs, accomplishments or events. Maintain and develop procedures in coordination with Alumni and Development Records toensure effective collecting, recording, accounting, acknowledgement and follow-up on philanthropic gifts to the School of Medicine. Adhere to office policies and procedures related to prospect management. Completecontact reports and monthly moves management reports. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein

EDUCATION/TRAINING Work requires completion of a bachelor's degree program.
EXPERIENCE Work requires five years of fund raising experience in a related organization with a proven track record in alumni affairs, fund raising and donor relations. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
SKILLS Proven success in securing annual, special, and/or major gifts. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple fundraising activities simultaneously and to work collaboratively to coordinate solicitation strategies in a decentralized environment. Regional travel is required and requires flexibility inwork hours to include evenings and some weekends as needed to accomplish objectives and satisfy goals.
