Gross Room Supervisor/UKHC

Job description

This position will serve as supervisor, practitioner, educator and a role model for residents, students, and staff members on grossing complex and small specimens, as well as performing frozen sections, specimen photography, and supporting tissue procurement for clinical research. Under administrative direction of the Associate Director and Medical Director will establish and maintain an efficient grossing and frozen section area. Oversees daily operations of the surgical pathology gross room and organizes workflow by distributing work/specimens to other PAs and residents. In addition to grossing complex and small specimens, the incumbent will perform duties relating to the administrative maintenance of surgical pathology protocols, procedures, reports, and data; as well as, conduct employee orientation, training, competency,and performance evaluations. PA certification required. Approximately 30,000 surgicals annually; Pathology Residents; Mon-Fri day shift

Physical Requirements

Standing for long periods of time; lifting of specimens and objects; exposure to chemicals, blood, tissue, and body fluids; must wear personal protective equipment for long periods of time.


Monday-Friday, variable hours


Gross dissection and frozen section technique; CoPath Plus experience desired; experience in academic medical center preferred; previous supervisory experience.

Preferred Education/Experience

Completion of NAACLS accredited Pathologists' Assistant training program or equivalent and at least one year of paid supervisory experience as a Pathologists' Assistant in an academic medical center preferred.
