Activities Manager, Pre-Collegiate Studies

Position Overview
The Activities Manager supervises twelve Activities Coordinators, who work on teams of two or three. Each team plans daily events and activities for a group of three to five residences, known as a cluster. The Activities Manager brings organization and efficiency to the various yet similar plans happening across campus.
The Activities Manager maintains a strong presence throughout the program by attending activities, being available to field questions, listening to concerns, and mediating conflicts. The position requires a high level of responsibility, self-direction, leadership, problem-solving skills, good judgment, communication, organizational skills, professionalism, and discretion, as well as a good sense of humor. This is a full-time residential position averaging 60 hours per week and does not include an instructional academic component.

Your responsibilities as Activities Manager include:

  • Assisting with training and ongoing professional development of the twelve Activities Coordinators
  • Tracking expenses and following budgets, in accordance with Stanford policies
  • Managing and procuring program resources related to activities
  • Collaborating with the Assistant Residential Directors to set expectations and build Activities Coordinator team morale in each cluster
  • Ensuring program policies, guidelines, and best practices are uniformly executed
  • Coordinating with the Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies year-round staff and campus colleagues to ensure proper use of campus amenities
  • Providing residential support to the participants (e.g., being on duty, chaperoning field trips and events)
  • Fostering and promoting an inclusive environment for all participants, staff, and SPCS community members
  • Guiding participants in educational initiatives centered around individual development, wellness, community engagement, and inclusion
  • Assuring the well-being of participants by helping them physically navigate campus and off-campus locations and completing rounds of multi-story buildings to conduct wellness checks
  • Leading and participating in afternoon, evening, and weekend recreational and social activities

    To be successful in this position, you will bring:
  • Comfort with supervising others, including enforcing rules, solving problems, making decisions, and mediating conflict
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to delegate
  • Enthusiasm, responsibility, and team-building skills
  • Ability to maintain calmness under pressure
  • The readiness to attend approximately ten hours of pre-summer meetings and trainings during Spring Quarter (some of which can be done online)
  • Availability for mandatory training from June 17 - June 23, 2019
  • Availability for both sessions of the three connected programs

    Additionally, you will preferably bring:
  • At least one year of experience as a Residential Assistant, or comparable residential leadership experience
  • Previous summer camp/program experience or experience leading or managing student groups

    The standard salary for the Activities Manager is $1,475/week plus a full room and board package. This position is exempt and is therefore not subject to overtime pursuant to state and federal wage and hour laws.

  • Pre-Collegiate Summer Institutes | June 24 - August 2, 2019
  • Summer Humanities Institute | June 24 - August 2, 2019
  • Summer Arts Institute | June 24 - August 2, 2019
