Advancement Communications Specialist

Job description

Butler University is in the early stages of its largest comprehensive campaign to date. The Advancement Communications Specialist will support the development and tactical execution of a comprehensive communication strategy intended to increase donor engagement and achieve advancement objectives with key constituent groups, including alumni, donors, faculty and friends.

The Advancement Communications Specialist will be responsible for the creation, editing, proofing and tactical delivery of content supporting Butler University's comprehensive advancement communication strategy. S/he reports to the Director of Donor Relations and Stewardship in University Advancement.  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support Advancement Communications Lead
  • Ensure delivery of communications strategy outlined in enterprise Advancement communications matrix
  • Write and edit feature articles, newsletters, stewardship materials, gift proposals, annual reports, direct mail content, event remarks, web content, event communications content, and other communications
  • Develop supplemental materials such as biographies, backgrounders, and executive talking points, scripts, and presentations
  • Coordinate with major and principal gift officers to develop and implement content strategies for reaching donors and volunteers
  • Interview donors, faculty, and students for writing assignments, as well as other alumni, parents, and friends of the University as needed

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support ad hoc Advancement events that serve to recognize and engage donors

    • Ability to translate information and data into compelling cases for support
