The Center for Infrastructure, Energy and Space Testing (CIEST) in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering provides a managed experimental facility offering geotechnical centrifuge, structural dynamics and material testing. The facility boasts unique full-scale, fast loading rate, gravitational and environmental control capabilities. The Center offers accessibility of facilities and expertise for large-, reduced-, and element-scale testing to students, faculty and visitors.

The CIEST is seeking candidates for a Technical Specialist (Professional Research Assistant) position, to join a multidisciplinary research team of engineers tackling the lab's broad testing capabilities.

The Technical Specialist will

- Design and implement research projects related to experimental implementation, including electronic and mechanical sensors, data acquisition systems and electronic control programming.

- Prepare research proposals, experimental cost estimating, and data analysis and reporting.

- Have oversight of laboratory operations, working with faculty and students to support classes, meeting with Center management to identify short term goals and long term endeavors.

- Operation and maintenance of testing equipment, including large capacity loading frames, high speed servo-controlled actuators and various capacity centrifuges and heavy machinery, including overhead crane and forklift.

- Implement laboratory safety procedures and associated training of faculty, staff and students.


Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in structural, geotechnical, electrical, mechanical, aerospace, computer science or other engineering discipline.
