Lecturer - Clinical Supervision (F00081)

Job description

The Lecturer is an individual with both experiential and academic preparation who can provide clinical supervision to a student or students in the clinical areas. The number of student/s will vary from a ratio of 1-8 depending on the specific clinical experiences and the level of the student/s. It is expected that this individual will assume the direct clinical teaching responsibilities delegated by the primary faculty course coordinator. Lecturer is hired to teach on a course-by-course basis

Delineation of Responsibilities is as follows:

Clinical Coverage:
The Lecturer will provide clinical coverage and teaching for nursing students formally enrolled in clinical courses at the University of Colorado College of Nursing.

The Lecturer through collaboration with course coordinator will determine a method for keeping evaluative data and sharing that data with student/s he/she is directly supervising. The final evaluation will be the responsibility of the Lecturer in participation and/or in collaboration with the primary course coordinator.

Learning Experiences:
The Lecturer is responsible for assuring that the learning experiences provided in the clinical area are congruent with the overall course learning objectives and are made available to the individual student/s as appropriate.

Clinical Conferences:
The Lecturer will be responsible for conducting clinical conferences as appropriate with the students in the clinical area.

The Lecturer serves as the liaison person between the College of Nursing course coordinator and staff personnel on the clinical unit/s where student/s are assigned, and is responsible to discuss the learning needs and course objectives to staff personnel within the clinical facility.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree with appropriate specialty/discipline content OR equivalent would be BS degree with 2 years of clinical practice in specialty as well as documented evidence of continuing education in their clinical specialty or continuing education related to supervision and assessment of students.
  • Current immunizations and certifications (BLS, ACLS or PALS or NRP, and RN license). Drug screen may be required for clinical agency placement.
  • Evidence of teaching experience
  • Evidence/documentation of the quality of teaching

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree with appropriate specialty/discipline content.
