Program Assistant for SNAP-Ed

Job description

This position works out of the Shelby County Extension Office which is located at 1117 Frankfort Road, Shelbyville, KY.

Under the supervision of the County Extension Agent for Family & Consumer Sciences and/or Area Extension Agent for Food and Nutrition, the person filling this position will be responsible for delivering nutrition education programs to limited resource and Spanish speaking individuals and families. Educational programs may include workshops, exhibits, presentations, and food demonstrations on topics such as basic nutrition, food security, food safety, and food budget management. Regular duties include: Recruiting and enrolling youth, individuals, and families in the SNAP-Ed Program; Planning and organizing the educational delivery; Evaluating the programs and submitting required records including computer and web based reports promptly; and Attending all training conferences.

The Program Assistant will also refer to county extension agents the names, needs, and/or interest for individuals in areas other than nutrition.

The salary for this position is $13.00/hour.

Physical Requirements

This position requires occasional lifting, pushing or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds and loading and/or unloading supplies and materials onto carts.


Primarily Monday through Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; some weekends and evening activities may be required as needed.


Computer and food preparation skills. Knowledge of community organizations and agencies. Ability to plan, conduct and evaluate educational events. Oral and written communication skills and organizational and process skills. Ability to relate effectively with adults and youth.

Does this position have supervisory responsibilities?

Preferred Education/Experience

High School or GED education required. Associates Degree preferred. Fluent in Spanish preferred.
