JOB DETAILS:

POSITION: A probationary tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor is available in the Department of Music and Theatre Arts in the College of Arts and Sciences. The department seeks a candidate with expertise in lighting and scenic design, and an ability to teach introductory sound technology who is committed to teaching excellence and to maintaining an active program involving undergraduates. This appointment carries an initial two-year probationary appointment beginning with the 2019/2020 academic year, August 26, 2019.

QUALIFICATIONS: MFA in Theatre Design required. Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness.

DUTIES: Duties and responsibilities include teaching introduction to design, history of design, lighting and scenic design, introduction to sound technology, and topics in accordance with specialization and departmental needs; providing scenic and lighting designs in a new state-of-the-art performing arts center (Pablo Center at the Confluence) as part of diverse mainstage productions which include plays, musicals, and operas; participating in research and creative activities; providing academic advising to students as assigned; engaging in service to the department, University and profession.

DEPARTMENT: The Department of Music and Theatre Arts serves approximately 110 majors and minors in undergraduate programs in theatre arts and dance and offers BA degrees in theatre, theatre education, and musical theatre, as well as a certificate in dance. The Department also serves approximately 375 music majors and minors and is supported by 31 full-time and 7 part-time faculty, specifically 7 full-time faculty in theatre and dance. The theatre and dance programs are primarily housed in the Pablo Center for Performing Arts (opening fall of 2018) which includes a 1200-seat theatre, a flexible 400-seat theatre, rehearsal, dance and community rooms, labs for sound and lighting, set and exhibit design, recording arts, multimedia production and costume design. The department is highly regarded in the state and region, and our faculty are well known for the quality of their performances and for their innovative teaching.
