Job Details
The School of Art and Visual Studies (SAVS) at the University of Kentucky seeks applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in Art Studio and Digital Design to begin August 2019. The successful candidate will teach two courses per semester (2/2 teaching load) and advise both undergraduate and graduate students working in a variety of contemporary studio practices. The candidate will also be expected to conduct creative research and provide appropriate service to the school, college, university and public.
An MFA or equivalent terminal degree in the area of design or related field is required. To complement and expand the graphic design area within our contemporary arts program, applicants should demonstrate the ability to teach screen-based design (including, but not limited to web, app, and/or user interface), motion graphics, and emergent media. Capacity to teach professional practices and knowledge of current design practices and methodologies is required. Professional design experience and knowledge of 3D graphics is beneficial. Balanced understanding of the cultural context of visual production that includes familiarity with contemporary art is vital for this position. Previous teaching experience is preferred, as this position will involve curricular development in the new Digital Media Design degree.

Research
In fiscal year 2016, the University of Kentucky was awarded $316.5 million in external grants and contracts.
