The Physics and Energy Science Department at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor, to begin August 2019. We seek an experimentalist in the area of condensed matter physics/nanophysics/optics, but excluding superconductivity and semiconductor physics. The candidate should bring significantly new expertise, but be able to collaborate with existing physics faculty (i.e. linear and nonlinear magnetic dynamics, liquid crystals/soft matter, electromagnetic waves in confined geometries, nanophysics, or biophysics). The successful candidate should be dynamic, energetic, creative, and engaging. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in physics, with a typical teaching load of 2 courses per semester. The position also includes supervising undergraduate, MSc and PhD students and publishing in refereed journals. The successful applicant will be expected to have the background and potential for excellent teaching in physics at all levels, a demonstrated ability for first-rate research, a commitment to working with graduate and undergraduate students, and to attract external funding. Service at the departmental, university or professional level is also required.

Candidates must have a PhD in physics, applied physics, or closely related field in hand by the date of application. Twelve months or longer of postdoctoral experience is required.
