Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's required. Masters in a liberal arts and sciences discipline strongly preferred.. Alternately, Masters in an advising-related field of Higher Education (such as Student Affairs, Counseling Psychology, and Educational Leadership) would also be acceptable.



Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

At least 3 years of experience in academic advising or a closely related activity required. Prior experience working with academic policy and/or curriculum is strongly preferred. Strong written and interpersonal communication skills are essential.

Additionally desirable qualifications and experience:
Supervisory experience
Experience with research
Experience with student records management and databases.
Familiarity with university resources and academic programs in the College of Letters and Sciences or experience in a comparable program.
Expertise needed for curricula interpretation and decision-making, or excellent ability to acquire this knowledge.

Position Summary:

The Associate Director of Academic Services will work as a member of a team to foster a rich, satisfying, and supportive educational experience for L&S Honors students, and will possess an understanding of the academic and personal challenges faced by a diverse body of high-ability undergraduate students at a large university This position under the general direction of the Honors Faculty Director provides a broad range of student services including but not limited to:
- Coordinating advising for approximately 1,400 students who are spread across 34 departments and 63 undergraduate majors in the College of Letters & Science.
- Providing support to these engaged students as they develop a sense of self and purpose.
- Overseeing curricula and policies leading to Bachelor's degrees conferring Honors in the Liberal Arts, Honors in the Major, and Comprehensive Honors.

L&S Honors Program activities include admissions; scholarships and awards, in particular for research opportunities and study abroad; program, policy, and curriculum development for Honors in the College; academic advising of Honors students; promotion of leadership, service, and active citizenship through the Honors Student Organization and sponsorship of other organizations and activities; Honors community-building events; alumni relations.

In achievement and prestige, the University of Wisconsin–Madison has long been recognized as one of America's great universities. In 1848, Nelson Dewey, Wisconsin’s first governor, signed the act that formally created the university, and its first class, with 17 students, met in a Madison school building on February 5, 1849.
