The Knight-Hennessy Scholars program is Stanford's multidisciplinary, graduate-level scholarship focused on preparing the next generation of global leaders to address the complex challenges facing the world. Knight-Hennessy Scholars (KHS) will annually select up to 100 high-achieving students with demonstrated leadership and civic commitment, who will receive full funding to pursue a graduate education at Stanford. In addition to the core Stanford degree program, each scholar will have additional opportunities for leadership training, mentorship, and cohort-based experiential learning.

The Associate Director, Marketing & Communications will serve as a key contributor. In partnership with the leadership team, he/she will develop and execute a comprehensive marketing and communications plan that builds global awareness and assists the recruiting efforts by helping to attract top students to this highly-selective program. Reporting to the Managing Director, he/she will be responsible for a host of associated projects and additional key programs (ex: website management, donor stewardship, etc).

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, a creative problem-solver, and an enthusiastic team player with a depth of knowledge in marketing and communications (especially digital media). He/she will exhibit solid judgement, an innovative spirit, technical expertise, and a commitment to managing both complex and simple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, start-up-like environment.


  • Develop, manage, and execute a strategic and comprehensive marketing and communications plan to build brand awareness and recruit top-candidates for the Knight-Hennessy Scholars program.
  • Lead digital marketing efforts by executing an integrated communication strategy; manage and create content for the KHS website and other communication channels; manage and coordinate digital media channels (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.).
  • Oversee and maintain the brand, style, and voice of the program across all channels, and manage the communications master calendar.
  • Partner with the Dean of Knight-Hennessy Scholar Admissions to update existing and develop new admission materials, and leverage Stanford's network to attract top global talent.
  • In coordination with the Managing Director, create and implement a high-touch donor stewardship plan that will include annual personalized communications, reports, and touchpoints.
  • Write and produce various communications and marketing pieces as assigned.
  • Define and conduct market research, including benchmarking, identification of market opportunities and communications program analysis. Using a variety of analytics tools, measure and assess the effectiveness of various communication platforms and use analytics information to advise on which platforms should be used to promote which messages.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with communications and marketing professionals across campus and in industry to stay at the cutting-edge of the craft and keep partners informed and invested.
  • Manage vendors or additional staff on specific projects.

Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Previous experience in product, program and/or services marketing.
  • Demonstrated experience in integrated marketing strategy development and execution across channels including digital; and print.
  • Extensive knowledge of strategic analysis, market research, data analysis and marketing planning.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent project manager with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams toward a common goal.
  • Creative problem-solver with strong critical thinking skills.
  • Prior experience in planning and managing events.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior leaders.

  • Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.
  • Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.
  • Rarely sort/file paperwork.
