Scope of Job:
The School of Earth, Environmental and Marine Sciences (SEEMS) at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level to be part of a growing ocean and coastal sciences research cluster. We are seeking candidates with a teaching and research focus that will complement and expand on our existing research areas, which include: coastal geology and geomorphology; coastal watersheds and wetlands; physical oceanography; biophysical interactions; environmental variability and climate change; continental shelf, benthic, planktonic, and fish species population connectivity and genetics; biochemistry and marine geochemistry; and ocean observing and sensing. University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley is a rapidly expanding Hispanic institution serving the growing Rio Grande Valley. Part of UTRGV's expansion is the new ocean and coastal sciences research facility in Port Isabel, Texas, across Laguna Madre from South Padre Island (SPI), a popular tourist beach destination. The facilities at Port Isabel expand on the UTRGV's existing marine science laboratory on SPI, an interdisciplinary coastal field station with active research, education and outreach programs. SEEMS has numerous observational resources, including oceanographic vessels, gliders, ROVs, and a growing number of instrumental arrays. UTRGV faculty and their students have free use of the TACC supercomputing clusters (https://www.tacc.utexas.edu/). UTRGV is an ADVANCE institution, one of a select group of universities in receipt of NSF funds in support of our commitment to increase diversity and the participation and advancement of women in STEM.
