Research Admnistrator

Amherst College invites applications for the Research Administrator position. The Research Administrator is a full time, year round position, job group and level PT-3. The Research Administrator is responsible for the administration, compliance, accounting, reporting, and pre/post-award assistance to professors and other PIs for all federal and private grant activities of the College.

The Research Administrator takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Key Responsibilities

Grant Administration
  • Pre-award administration including budget preparation, review of all proposals for compliance, and submission of all federal grant proposals to funding agencies
  • Post-award administration including financial accounting and reconciliation of grant activity, time and effort reporting, reviewing grant agreements/awards, and preparation of subaward agreements
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Faculty Office and Grants Office to ensure effective support of principal investigators seeking and receiving sponsored funding
  • Develop and maintain College policies and procedures in compliance with external and internal regulations
  • Create and maintain registrations and accounts for federal grant websites
  • Maintain and enhance the grants section of the finance area's webpage

Financial Reporting
  • Prepare financial reports and invoices for federal and private funding agencies
  • Assume the role of lead contact for all audits related to grant awards
  • Calculate and file the College's indirect cost rate proposal - triennial

QUALIFICATIONS

Required
  • Bachelor's Degree, or in lieu of degree, 6 or more years of directly relevant research administration experience
  • 3-5 years of research administration experience
  • Working knowledge of federal research regulations including OMB Uniform Guidance;
  • Experience with federal agency electronic grants administration systems such as grants.gov, eRA Commons, Fastlane, Research.gov and similar systems
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills; ability to manage multiple competing priorities including numerous proposal submissions, current awards, and post award tasks within tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and ability to learn new software programs
  • Experience working with a diverse community

Preferred
  • Experience with Ellucian Colleague
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or pursuit thereof
  • Experience in a higher education setting
