Vice President for Finance and CFO
Waynesburg University

Waynesburg University is seeking a collaborative and seasoned leader to partner with the President and the senior leadership; cultivate a collaborative team environment; articulate and execute the university’s strategic plan; oversee and strengthen business, budget, and financial reporting, analysis and projections; allocate resources and manage growth.

THE POSITION
The Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer is responsible for the leadership, planning and direction of the University’s finance and administrative operations. Reporting to the President and serving as a member of the executive management team, the vice president is responsible for providing executive level direction and management oversight for:

  • Financial planning, budgeting and budget analysis;
  • Accounting and business operations, internal controls, and financial reporting and projections to year-end;
  • Investments;
  • Debt strategy and portfolio, including debt service payments and their budgetary impact;
  • Insurance and risk management;
  • Procurement and contracts;
  • Any other initiatives as directed by the President.

The Vice President reviews and monitors contractual agreements of the University, leads the budgeting and audit processes, serves as staff liaison to the Finance and Audit Committees of the Board of Trustees, and works closely with senior leaders and key members of the community in articulating and implementing the University’s strategic plan.

THE UNIVERSITY
Founded in 1849 by the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Waynesburg University is a Christian higher education institution that provides a valuable, personal and hands-on educational experience preparing undergraduate and graduate students for lives of purpose and continued growth, offering more than 70 undergraduate major concentrations as well as more than 30 minors, and several integrated bachelors-to-masters programs. The University also offers graduate programs, with some available 100 percent online. Our traditional yet modern campus, located in the foothills of southwestern Pennsylvania near the city of Pittsburgh, is surrounded by beautiful parks, historic brick buildings, and a community of friends. We also have three Graduate and Professional Studies Program locations in the Pittsburgh region.

Our University community is made up of approximately 1,400 undergraduate students who, along with their focus on rigorous academics, also attend the 150+ campus faith events we offer and contribute to the 50,000 hours of service learning and community/civic engagement yearly. These students may also compete on one of our 20 NCAA Division III athletic teams or participate in one of the other nearly 50 clubs and organizations on campus.

THE LOCATION
Waynesburg is a borough and the county seat of Greene County, Pennsylvania, located about 50 miles (80 km) south of Pittsburgh. With a population of approximately 4,200, Waynesburg is growing but it still maintains its neighborly feel.
Stroll along the quaint streets and find unique shops and restaurants. The town's forefathers allowed for community green space in their planning and today, just two blocks from the heart of downtown, a wonderful park system exists.
Residents have the best of both worlds. The rural lifestyle is flavored by the past and reflects the agricultural and mining heritage of this area. Yet, with I-79, one is an hour from Pittsburgh and major league sports, cultural events, world-class medical care and the urban experience.
Stable, but never static, Waynesburg offers a place to kick back and enjoy the world from a distance without losing touch. Waynesburg's beauty and historical setting is a visitor's delight. Visitors may use Waynesburg as an excellent launching point for short drives to spectacular and breathtaking views and sights in Southwestern Pennsylvania.

THE QUALIFICATIONS
Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline from an accredited institution. A master’s degree and/or designation as a Certified Public Accountant are strongly preferred. The selected candidate must have extensive experience in administration and management, budget and financial planning, preferably in a higher education or not-for-profit setting. Additional qualifications include:

  • A demonstrated ability to analyze and effectively communicate financial information to a variety of constituents in an effective and concise fashion.
  • The ability to negotiate contracts with various vendors for the maximum benefit of the university.
  • Some experience in the management of construction projects.
  • The ability to develop financial models and budgeting to reflect multiple scenarios and strategic outcomes;
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills and the ability to envision and lead change at an institution-wide level and coalesce a consensus among peers and staff.
  • A high degree of personal and professional ethics, character and integrity that inspires trust and confidence.
  • An interest in and ability to support the Christian tradition of the University.
