Stanford Alumni Association (SAA) is looking for a Director of Community Insights and Engagement who will lead the development of strategies for identified constituents across SAA programs. Initially, the focus will be on two groups: Undergraduate Students and Recent Graduates and Graduate Students and Grad-only Alumni. We are looking for an entrepreneurial and collaborative leader who will seamlessly work across departments, within SAA and across the university, to create sustained engagement across all university programs. An ability to think strategically and build and sustain key relationships is critical to this role.

The Director of Community Insights and Engagement will report to the University's Vice-President for Alumni Affairs, who also serves as the President, Stanford Alumni Association. The Director of Community Insights and Engagement will also work in close partnership with SAA's Chief Marketing Officer and Vice-President for Alumni Relations.

The Stanford Alumni Association (SAA) seeks to engage all Stanford students and alumni in a lifelong relationship with the university and the global Stanford community. SAA offers a variety of on-campus, regional and digital programs that connect students and alumni with the university and each other and help them thrive as individuals. These programs are often in partnership with other campus departments.
Your primary responsibilities include:
  • Enthusiastically promote a constituent-centric approach to marketing and program planning.
  • Develop an informed and expert constituent view. Understand trends, constituent needs and opportunities by evaluating primary and secondary research and communications and program data from program owners and campus partners.
  • Develop a strategy for identified constituent(s) in concert with SAA departments and campus organizations that creates sustained engagement with SAA and university programs and offerings.
  • Communicate strategy across the organization and/or university to educate and influence stakeholders. Build partnerships with SAA departments and campus partners.
  • Establish metrics and success measures, and work in partnership with departments to evaluate program performance against those measures.
  • May oversee event or project management to support marketing objectives. Manage key vendor and consultant relationships.
  • Scope and manage project/program budget(s).
  • May oversee interns and other contingent staff; provide staff training.
    Education & Experience:
    Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience; or a combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior leaders and across organizations.
  • Extensive knowledge of strategic analysis, segmentation strategies and business and marketing planning.
  • Demonstrated experience in integrated marketing strategy.
  • Demonstrated application of market research and data analysis.
  • Excellent project manager with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience presenting to senior management.
  • Data driven - ability to define metrics and data driven outcomes.
  • Knowledgeable about and comfortable with social media platforms.
  • Start-up mentality - ability to identify SAA and university resources to accomplish tasks
  • Ability to motivate, develop and train staff.
