Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Department of Physics at the University of North Texas is seeking applications for the position of Chair and Professor with tenure, with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2019. According to the most recent Carnegie Classification, UNT ranks as a top-tier research university. UNT has over 38,000 enrolled students, over 100 undergraduate physics majors, over 70 graduate physics majors, and over 20 full-time physics faculty members.* The Chair and Professor of the Department of Physics will work closely with the Dean of the College of Science and the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs to grow areas of international prominence.

We seek candidates with a strong record of research accomplishments, leadership ability, dedication to education and commitment to collegial faculty governance. The Chair is expected to create an appropriate environment within the Department that will stimulate and facilitate faculty efforts at building and maintaining externally funded research programs. Other duties include promoting faculty and student recruitment and retention, and managing the Department's resources.

Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum qualifications are an earned doctorate in Physics or related field. A distinguished record of research, as measured by referred publications and funded research, effective teaching and service commensurate with the appointment to the rank of professor.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates that have a history of leadership as a chair, assistant chair or associate dean that demonstrates the ability to maintain collegial working relationships within the department and with other administrators. Preferred qualifications also include evidence of effective leadership in developing and executing strategies for the department and its research programs. Experience with US educational institutions as either a student or as a faculty member is preferred
