Assistant Professor/Associate Professor

Job Summary/Basic Function:
The University of North Texas invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MTSE). Appointment at the Assistant Professor level would be expected, although outstanding candidates at higher ranks will also be considered. Salary, benefits, and teaching load for a major research university can be expected.

Minimum Qualifications:
We are seeking applicants who are energetic and visionary individuals with demonstrated expertise in polymeric materials science and engineering with research areas including polymer synthesis and characterization, structure-property relationships of polymeric materials, polymer-based composite materials, functional applications for energy conversion, storage and harvesting, biomedical devices, electronics and optoelectronics.

The successful candidate is expected to have an exceptional track record of research and publication with potential to develop a vibrant internationally-recognized research program with external funding support. The candidate is also expected to develop outstanding teaching programs at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, as well as supervise a research group, specifically with focus on graduate students.

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Materials Science and Engineering, Polymer Science, or a related field, and have demonstrated expertise in the processing and characterization of functional and structural polymers.

For the Assistant Professor position, a strong publication record and the potential to succeed in securing research funding and mentoring graduate students are required.

For the Associate Professor position, a sustained record of advising graduate students, securing external funding for research activities, and providing service to the University and the professional societies are also required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates with postdoctoral or industrial experiences are preferred.

Experience with processing, especially 3D printing, computer simulations, and advanced characterization techniques that build upon the current strengths of the department are highly desirable.

Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills are desired.
