Job Summary/Basic Function:
Teach all levels of ceramics in the undergraduate and graduate ceramics curriculum; emphasize critical decision making and execution throughout the creative process to positively affect the realizations of students' efforts in a wide variety of media and approaches, including traditional methods and emerging new material processes and expanded notions of ceramics practice. On-going, active participation within the ceramics graduate and undergraduate concentrations, and on institutional committees is expected, as is student advising. The standard course load is a 2/3.

The Ceramics concentration provides a comprehensive educational program designed to lay a solid foundation of basic skills and concepts, foster critical thinking, and inspire creativity so that each student may find his or her own aesthetic voice and develop a sustainable studio practice. The faculty has high intellectual and technical expectations of the students. Ceramics faculty members teach along with full time lecturers, adjuncts and teaching fellows who have diverse approaches to studio practice and critical discourse.

Minimum Qualifications:
MFA in studio art or other relevant terminal degree. An active exhibition record, combined with the ability to communicate within one's own disciplinary interest and across a broad range of contemporary and traditional ceramics practices, concepts and techniques.

Candidates should demonstrate successful college level teaching experience and a strong creative, professional and active record of exhibitions. Candidates must be able to instruct in all aspects of ceramics while maintaining an emphasis on a materials intensive approach to the mediums that integrate various styles from a historical and contemporary discourse. Working in a lecture/lab environment provides students with practical technical skills while engaging in critiques/discussions about contemporary art and craft processes. In addition, candidates must be able to effectively communicate contemporary issues in studio art and mentor advanced students with expanded technical and conceptual development.

Preferred Qualifications:
A minimum of two years university-level teaching experience after graduate school.
