Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Department of Psychology at the University of North Texas (UNT) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor to join its APA-accredited Counseling Psychology program, beginning Fall 2019. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a strong research program and a record of applying for or receiving extramural funding. The specific areas of research for this faculty position are open. However, preference will be given to candidates with research closely relevant to diversity issues and complementing one of the program's elective clusters. Successful applicants are expected to demonstrate strong interests in mentoring and supervising students' clinical work since training and supervision are a valued component of the program faculty. Faculty responsibilities include developing and maintaining an active research program, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, seeking research grants, advising doctoral students, and sharing service duties.
The Counseling Psychology Program at UNT trains professional psychologists within a scientist-practitioner model that focuses on individual and cultural diversity and the importance of social contexts. In addition to completing the core Counseling Psychology courses, our students are admitted into one of the three elective clusters (Child and Family, Sport Psychology, and Minority Wellness) that provide them with training opportunities to develop knowledge and competencies in particular areas. The UNT Department of Psychology has 27 faculty members and over 1,300 undergraduate majors. There are three doctoral programs in the department: Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology (also APA-accredited), and Behavioral Science. Across the three programs, we have approximately 110 graduate students. The department faculty have made a commitment to increasing the number of faculty members from historically marginalized groups, especially Faculty of Color. We have established formal and informal mentoring networks and processes by which every faculty member can succeed, feel supported, and find community. Candidates from underrepresented groups in higher education, those with professional or research experiences working with minority populations, or individuals with life experiences that have challenged them to know themselves as multicultural beings are strongly encouraged to apply.
UNT is a Class I-Doctorate Granting institution that is located in Denton, Texas, which is on the north side of the Dallas/Fort Worth/Denton Metroplex. UNT Denton, as the flagship research campus of the UNT System, has over 38,000 students with approximately 7,700 graduate students. * Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology or related field from an APA-accredited program at the time of employment.
* A record of rigorous research and scholarly productivity.
* Licensed (or license-eligible) as a psychologist in the State of Texas.
* Record of applying for and receiving extramural funding.
* Impactful research closely relevant to diversity issues.
* Research program that would align with one of the program's elective clusters, especially the Sport Psychology (SP) cluster.
* For candidates interested in SP, eligibility to be certified as a CMPC through AASP.
* Excellent record of teaching/mentoring undergraduate or graduate students.
* Leadership experience or active involvement in activities or programs that advance diversity and inclusiveness.
* Experience or willingness to teach the graduate-level Ethical and Professional Issues course.
