Job Summary/Basic Function:
The UNT Department of History invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Post-Civil War U.S. Southern History, beginning Fall 2019.
UNT is a Class IDoctorate Granting institution located in Denton, Texas about 40 miles north of both Dallas and Fort Worth. UNT Denton, the flagship research campus of the UNT System, has over 38,000 students and over 5,000 graduate students, and is one of the top choices in the nation for transfer students. The Department of History has 30 full-time faculty, more than 400 undergraduate majors, and more than 80 graduate students. It awards the Ph.D. in United States, European and Military History.

Minimum Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in U.S. History or a closely related field and a demonstrated research concentration in the New South at the time of appointment are required. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, conducting a vigorous research program, supervising graduate training, and serving on departmental committees. Teaching responsibilities include the U.S. History survey and undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of expertise.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to contribute to the department's strength in Texas history preferred. The committee will also consider ways in which candidates could contribute to the department's other initiatives, including minors in African American and Mexican American Studies, the Oral History Program, the Jewish and Israel Studies Program, the Military History Center, and/or the graduate concentration in Body, Place and Identity.
