Job Summary

The Institutional Research (IR) area of the Office of Data Analytics welcomes applications for a Data Analyst. IR is an 8-person institutional research office with a vision that plays a vital and trusted role in providing high-quality data, analyses, services, and products to our clients and stakeholders that allow them to make informed decisions. The IR area provides information for policy and management decisions to Boulder campus academic and administrative units; handles reporting to the U.S. and state governments, the press, and others; and serves as an official point-of-contact for campus statistics. To accomplish this vision, IR collects, analyzes, distributes, and assists in the use of data and information about CU-Boulder student enrollments, courses, degrees, employees, and other areas.

The Institutional Research Analyst will work with the Assistant Director of Institutional Research to advance campus initiatives through data analysis. The Institutional Researcher will assist with data analysis and reporting for use by internal and external audiences. This position collaborates with the Assistant Director of Institutional Research to advance campus strategic imperatives with data, information, and knowledge.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Data Quality and Analysis

  • Provide programming and data analysis support to co-workers, which includes reviewing external requests for data/information (e.g., a request from a client for student enrollment data) and internal requests.
    • This may include program modifications, researching and outlining a plan of action and verifying that it is consistent with the original request, producing the information/ modifications by identifying appropriate data sources, designing program logic, creating new code and/or modifying existing code using various software tools, and testing programs to verify their accuracy.


Data and Information Utilization

  • Increase data and information use by internal and external audiences through visualizations and other delivery methods.
    • Ensure visualizations adhere to internal conventions to provide a consistent look and user experience.


Continuous Improvement

  • Develop a strong understanding of current data structures and process flow in Institutional Research.
  • Provide suggestion for improving how the organization processes data to increase work efficiency.


What We Can Offer

The anticipated starting salary for this position is $60,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's Degree.
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • Three years of professional experience working in assessment or research.
  • Experience using a statistical software package, such as SPSS, SAS, Stata, R, or Tableau or related software.


What You Will Need

  • Ability to convey complex information using clear, simple language.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Strong attention to detail.


What We Would Like You To Have

  • Bachelor's Degree in Statistics or Master's Degree which emphasizes quantitative skills and research methods.
  • Experience in advanced statistical techniques.
  • Experience using data visualization software.
