Job description

The University of Kentucky Resident Life Department is currently seeking 3 Resident Directors.

The main goal of Office of Residence Life is to provide a comprehensive living and learning program on campus that supports the academic mission of the University. The Resident Director takes primary responsibility for achieving this goal in an individual residence hall through supervising staff, assisting students, creating an educational environment in the hall, and communicating with partners across campus.

Major responsibilities include:
• Hire and supervise undergraduate student staff
• Oversee all aspects of building administration (monitoring security equipment, maintenance reports, room assignments, payroll, and various department forms)
• Implement and enforce policy (holding in-hall conduct meetings, train and implement safety and security policies and emergency procedures)
• Oversee academic programming initiatives
• Provide for an environment in the residence hall that supports students' academic success

Physical Requirements

Occasional lifting, pushing, and/or pulling of objects up to 50 lbs; occasional standing or walking with objects up to 10 lbs; sitting at a computer workstation for extended periods of time; occasional job-related travel.


Days, evenings, weekends, on call. The Resident Director lives in an apartment in the residence hall that they supervise.


Experience in higher education or working in a residential setting; evidence of administrative skills; and good interpersonal skills and judgment, independence and professionalism.

Does this position have supervisory responsibilities?

Preferred Education/Experience

Master's degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration or a related field. At least one year working in a residence hall setting.
