Posting Information: The Director of Student Services (DSS) directs and oversees student recruitment, retention, and enrollment activities, which includes registration, academic advising, academic support and counseling, scholarships, financial aid, student records and data collection for graduate and undergraduate students. The position will provide leadership and direction for the overall management of the Office of Student Services for the School of Nursing on the Cullowhee campus and Biltmore Park location. The successful candidate will report to the Director of the School of Nursing, and work closely with faculty, advisors and other university services to administer policies, to create proactive student development programs, to develop and monitor the degree evaluation process, and to recruit and advise current and prospective students. The DSS will develop and maintain a professional development program for advisors. The DSS will also consult with faculty and staff on student issues, make academic action decisions on student requests for exceptions, and make referrals to other University offices when necessary. The DSS will also provide leadership and direction in the day-to-day operations of the Office of Student Services for the School of Nursing including but not limited to hiring and training of staff, budget management, and resolving office problems independently and facilitating solutions. The description of work for this position is as follows: 1. Provides leadership and collaborates with the Assistant Director of Student Services to maintain effective operational management of the Office of Student Services. 2. Provide academic advising to students who are following the nursing major and/or dismissed until able to declare another major. 3. Oversees enrollment and application processing, makes preliminary recommendations (pre-approval or screening decisions) for acceptance and participates in screening interviews as needed. 4. Provides academic, financial and other support services advisement to current and prospective students. 5. Manages the admission, registration, clinical placement and graduation processes in the School of Nursing. 6. Oversees the supervision of student services personnel, which includes hiring, training work allocation, on-going professional development and problem resolution; conducts annual performance evaluations and makes recommendation for personnel actions. 7. Provides leadership in the development of goals and objectives for the Office of Student Services; imlements, monitors and evalutes processes developed to achieve goals and objectives. 8. Plan and conduct individual and/or group sessions with students to foster academic, personal and social growth. 9. Identify support services and make referrals for students as necessary; e.g. tutorial services, financial aid, testing and guidance, career counseling and placement, etc. 10. Collaborates with academic support and counseling staff campus-wide to facilitate and promote efficacy in the delivery of admissions and student services policies and processes. 11. Makes presentations to students, University administrators, faculty, staff and community agencies, as requested. 12. Oversees recruitment events and marketing strategies, including print and web-based design, for both undergraduate and graduate programs. 13. Coordinate and direct New Student Orientation Sessions to include advising and registering students. 14. Assist in new, returning and continuing student registration including overrides for closed sections or prerequisite requirements. 15. Collaborates with the Director of the School of Nursing and faculty to accomplish the mission and goals of the School of Nursing. 16. Interprets and enforces academic policies and procedures as they pertain to Student Affairs and the School of Nursing. 17. Identifies and reports issues that may require School of Nursing policy changes. 18. Prepares integrated reports as needed by the School of Nursing. 19. Compile accurate data for all reports that require student recruitment, enrollment, retention, progression, and graduation information. 20. Oversees post-graduation surveys, including graduate, alumni and employer surveys. 21. Conducts advising workshops for potential students and teaches online undergraduate and graduate University Experience courses. 22. Communicate with students and faculty members regarding important dates and campus information, e.g., workshop opportunities, deadlines, important events on campus or sponsored by the School of Nursing. 23. Completes other assignments as requested by the Director of the School of Nursing.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements: 1. A master's degree. 2. Experience in student services administration or related field with an emphasis on admissions procedures, enrollment management, retention planning and data management. 3. Understanding of the integrated functions of the Registrar, Office of Admissions, Financial Aid and Student Affairs. 4. Clear demonstration of strong communication, organizational, time-management, interpersonal skills and an ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines. 5. Knowledge of computer software applications and systems for information and records purposes.

Preferred Qualifications: 1. A Master's degree with emphasis in public administration, student personnel services, or other related field. 2. Three years of experience in student procedures, enrollment management, retention planning and data management preferred. 3. Familiarity with University and School of Nursing policies and procedures as well as the nursing profession preferred.
