Organization
Founded in 1967, North Country Community College is nestled in the heart of the Adirondack Park in northern New York State. The Adirondack Park is a unique patchwork of public and private lands where half of the park is constitutionally protected to preserve “forever wild.” The College hosts three exciting campuses in Saranac Lake, Malone and Ticonderoga, NY; these are all vibrant communities steeped in a rich history that founded our country and are part of a recreational paradise that brings millions of people to the area annually who enjoy breath-taking vistas.
The mission of North Country Community College provides an exceptional learning and community building experience for all who seek it, challenging and supporting individuals in their educational and personal growth. The College was rated the #1 Community College in New York State and the #22 Community College in the country in 2010 by Washington Monthly. North Country Community College has embarked on the final stages of a strategic planning process that will advance its commitment to seven institutional values: honest, open and timely communication; shared governance; mutual respect for diversity and individuality; accountability and integrity; openness to change; transparency; and intellectual curiosity.
North Country is a comprehensive community college with 2,400 students enrolled annually and is one of the 64 campuses of the State University of New York. The annual budget is $13 million for operating three campuses which are located in Saranac Lake, Malone, and Ticonderoga within Essex and Franklin counties of New York State.
Through its three campuses, satellite sites, and distance learning, the college is dedicated to offering academic and workforce opportunities that challenge and support individuals in meeting their educational goals. As the only public college within the Adirondack Park, students benefit from attendance the State University of New York’s most unique college.
