Position Summary: The Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks to hire one full-time Research Instructor (fixed term) faculty member. The successful applicant will serve as project manager for a preclinical behavioral phenotyping laboratory and support research using mouse models of autism, schizophrenia, and other psychiatric disorders. This position involves management of projects from multiple investigators, expert mouse behavioral testing, data organization and analysis, and training and supervision of laboratory personnel and users. Responsibilities include administrative support, drug preparation, carrying out acute and chronic treatment regimens, and use of mouse surgical procedures. The project manager may handle regulatory processes (EHS and IACUC), coordinate animal import and study design with outside agencies, and assist with paper and grant writing. We are seeking candidates with experience in basic research related to psychiatric conditions and who demonstrate excellent collaboration and organization skills.

Education Requirements: Masters in a discipline-related field of science, such as psychology, neuroscience, or pharmacology, from an accredited college or university.

Qualification and Experience: Knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment, and terminology used in behavioral neuroscience or related areas. Experience with rodent handling, testing, and drug administration. Knowledge of behavioral pharmacology, basic neuroanatomy, and statistical software for data analysis. Demonstrated abilities in laboratory and project management; strong organizational and communication skills. At least two years of laboratory experience with rodent models. Candidates with research experience in behavioral mouse models preferred.
