Tenure-track Professor of Music History (Open Rank)

Job description

The Music Program at Bard College solicits applications for a tenure-track position in performance and music history with a specialty in Baroque and pre-classical music. Geographic and theoretical specializations are open.  Bard is a liberal arts college located two hours North of New York City in the Hudson Valley. It has a music program and conservatory with an international reputation which includes Bard Summerscape and the Bard Music Festival. The college has a strong tradition of progressive education and academic, literary, and artistic innovation.  

The candidate should be a practicing musician with strong skills in keyboard playing including organ and continuo who could maintain and expand the existing Baroque music ensemble. Duties will include advising students and teaching advanced and introductory courses in performance and history. Candidates with teaching skills in music theory are encouraged to apply.  Preference will be given to candidates with an established performance career and with evidence and an expectation of maintaining both creative and scholarly activities.
