Description of Position
Los Medanos College is recruiting to fill a Mathematics (Statistics Specialist) full-time tenure track faculty position to teach courses at the Pittsburg campus starting Fall 2019.

1) Initial review of applications will occur between January 28-February 8, 2019.
2) Selected applicants will be invited to a campus interview, at their own expense, between February 28th-March 8, 2019.
3) Final interviews will be held March 11-22, 2019.

Minimum Qualification-Education/Experience
The applicant must possess one of the following qualifications:
1. A valid lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential with authorization to teach
Mathematics OR

2. A Master's Degree in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics OR

3. Bachelor's Degree in either of the above AND a Master's Degree in Physics, Statistics or Mathematical Education OR

4. The equivalent.


Desirable Qualifications
1. Experience and ability teaching a broad range of courses throughout the entire community college math curriculum including supporting students in developmental and co-requisite skills courses, transfer level courses (e.g. Statistics, Precalculus, or Calculus), and non-credit or adult education courses.
2. Understanding of and experience in supporting the goals and needs of community college students, including helping students with study skills and affective factors affecting their academic success.
3. Ability to facilitate effective mathematical learning in the classroom, including experience utilizing modes of instruction such as class discussions, facilitating student collaboration and group work, tutoring, and working a math lab.
4. Ability and willingness to integrate new and existing Statistical Software/Tools into the curriculum. This includes utilizing technology in face-to-face teaching (e.g. graphing calculators, Statcrunch, Online Learning Initiative, R, Tinkerplot, and/or similar software packages/systems) as well as teaching on-line and hybrid courses.
5. Ability and willingness to modify personal teaching practices based on current research and effective teaching strategies.
6. Experience with curriculum and assessment. This can include: developing new courses, creating classroom materials, designing and using assessment instruments, and utilizing assessment findings to modify curriculum.
7. Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities.
