Position Summary
The Assistant Director will oversee an array of programs, creating and nurturing opportunities for meaningful alumni engagement by region or affinity through event management, social media and online engagement. As part of the Alumni Engagement staff, the Assistant Director will be a member of a team responsible for supporting the University's network of 120,000 alumni. The ideal candidate will be a resourceful individual with superior interpersonal, written, organizational, and relationship-building skills. The candidate must be a self-starter, be able to handle multiple priorities, and be detail-oriented.
The Assistant Director will coordinate and co-manage alumni programs and events. This requires frequent, meaningful interaction with alumni, staff, faculty volunteers, students and other partners. The Assistant Director will do this by proactively balancing several projects at once and will set and meet deadlines to ensure measurable success. Building partnerships with alumni will be critical, therefore regular outreach and communication with regional leadership teams, volunteer boards and committees will be required.
The Assistant Director will serve as the main point of contact and connectivity for alumni interested in engaging with the university by triaging and coordinating talent deployment across campus. The Assistant Director will have the ability to serve as a coach to decentralized units determining how to craft engaging alumni experiences and employ best practices in volunteer management.
The Assistant Director will be a skilled communicator with the ability to build a pipeline of warm leads and generating social capital. The Assistant Director will also have the ability to make targeted and proactive asks of prospects, volunteers and community leaders to generate affinity.
The Assistant Director will play a critical role in executing the overall strategic direction of the Office of Alumni Engagement. The ideal candidate should be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Google platforms, Facebook and Instagram. Experience with Banner, the university data base, is preferred. The Assistant Director should also have knowledge working with data, showing proficiency in analyzing data for alumni trends, and tracking the data for measurement. The candidate should possess knowledge of social media best practices and the ability to create online engagement strategies.
The Assistant Director will be a member of a highly visible team, which requires quick response time to emails beyond the traditional work hours. The Assistant Director must also be available for occasional evening and weekend assignments. Minimal domestic travel is required.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree
• A minimum of 2 years' experience in a professional position, preferably in an educational environment or related relevant experience.
• Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with various levels of professionals, internal and external to the organization.
• Experience with program design and implementation.
• Working effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to proactively manage several projects at once and set and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, database management, social media and online engagement strategies. Experience with Banner is a plus.
• Ability to handle a fast-paced and results oriented environment, with the ability to work in a timely manner.
• Comfortable working in a high visibility position, understanding that quick response times and flexibility are required.
• Ability to develop, implement and evaluate new strategies, programs and procedures.
• Strong oral, written communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work weekends and evenings is required. Travel regionally as required.
