Assistant Professor of Contemporary Voice

                                                                

The University of Miami Frost School of Music is accepting applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor in Contemporary Voice beginning in the Fall 2019 Term.

The successful candidate will have a strong record of accomplishment and demonstrated expertise as a contemporary/popular vocal coach and musician. Candidate will have significant experience and track record with modern vocal techniques across a wide spectrum of contemporary/popular music genres, both live and in the studio. The successful candidate will also have a strong and significant record of accomplishment as an educator in higher learning with a distinct creative and/or scholarship profile. The salary is competitive.

Principal duties include teaching private and small group voice lessons to contemporary/popular music performers and singer-songwriters, and depending on areas of expertise, teaching contemporary/popular music theory and/or aural skills, directing vocal and/or mixed ensembles focused on original music and arrangements, and directing and producing vocal recording sessions. Candidate will also participate in auditions, juries, recruiting, and outreach activities. The successful candidate may also be considered for appointment as Program Director of the Musicianship, Artistry Development, & Entrepreneurship (MADE) program.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise in contemporary/popular vocal pedagogy.
  • Strong piano (preferred) or guitar skills, including the ability to accompany with traditional notation as well as improvised arrangements from chord charts, is required.  Additional instruments desirable.
  • Basic technology skills including microphone technique, selection, vocal recording and editing, and live rehearsal mixing required.
  • Vocal and/or instrumental arranging and songwriting skills highly desirable. 
  • A master’s degree in music or higher is required. Exceptional professional experience may be considered in lieu of advanced degree.
