Assistant Professor in Emerging Media and Digital Journalism (Tenure-Track)

University of Miami, Coral Gables, Florida

The Department of Journalism and Media Management at the University of Miami is seeking a tenure-track assistant professor in the area of new, emerging media and digital journalism.  This position is to begin in Fall 2019. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or other terminal degree, such as an MFA, or provide evidence they will have completed all requirements for the degree by August 2019.  

An active research agenda, ideally combining journalism and journalism studies with subjects related to new and digital media, is required.  We seek a thriving scholar and educator who contributes to the department’s courses and research profile. The school and department offer research funding and course release to support this activity. The Department is open to a variety of methodological approaches.  Ideally, the candidate will have a solid background in journalism practice or related communication experience to draw upon in teaching.

Applicants should be able to teach courses in one or more of the following subject areas: data journalism, computational journalism, and interactive data visualization.  The successful candidate may also teach subjects related to their area of expertise in the School’s doctoral program and will be expected to mentor graduate students and serve on dissertation and thesis committees.
