The Department of Strategic Communication at the University of Miami’s School of Communication is seeking applications for a full-time lecturer to teach in the Public Relations program, beginning in January 2019. The position entails teaching eight courses per year, as well as academic advising of undergraduate students. A master’s degree in public relations, communication, or a related field is required. A minimum of five years of professional experience in public relations is required. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.
Successful candidates must have the ability to teach at courses in at least four of the following core areas of Public Relations: Principles, Graphic Design, Strategy Development, Writing, Research, Message Development/Execution, and Campaigns. In addition, the ideal candidate also will be able to teach courses in one or more specialized areas of PR, such as travel and tourism, media relations, sports promotion, corporate communication, crisis management, public relations measurement, international public relations, and public relations management. The ideal candidate will have strong public relations industry connections and will be able to help students find internships and connect with professionals in the field. The candidate must be passionate about working with and advising students, be willing and able to embrace new technology and help students adapt to new media demands, and assist students in making the transition from the classroom into the profession.
