Provost Search

Suffolk University, one of the nation’s most vibrant urban institutions of higher education, invites applications, expressions of interest, and nominations of candidates in its search for its next Provost. Suffolk seeks an entrepreneurial and innovative academic leader to partner with President Marisa Kelly, the faculty, the students, and the administration to help Suffolk achieve new heights of academic excellence.

Located in the heart of Boston, Suffolk is a thriving private university of 7,332 undergraduate and graduate students who are taught and mentored by 346 full-time dedicated and gifted faculty. The Provost serves as Suffolk’s chief academic officer and implements and maintains academic policies designed to support intellectual pursuits by faculty, staff, and students. The Office of the Provost works closely with the deans of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Law School, and the Sawyer Business School to deliver a student-centered experience that fosters engaged learning, rigorous scholarship, creative thinking, and community collaboration.

The next Provost of Suffolk University will join the institution at a time of positive momentum on all fronts. Suffolk seeks an accomplished academic leader who will inspire its faculty, students, staff, alumni, and community partners. The next Provost will be a servant leader with a distinguished academic record that commands the respect of the scholarly community and merits appointment as a tenured full professor at Suffolk. She or he will bring significant academic administrative experience appropriate to the size and complexity of Suffolk, and ideally will have a record of successful leadership across a number of disciplines. The candidate will also have administrative experience with student retention strategies, student academic support services, academic facilities, budgeting, and program assessment. Knowledge of information services and academic technologies is preferred. The next Provost will bring a highly relational approach, outstanding communication skills, authenticity, self-confidence balanced with humility, integrity of the highest order, a strong work ethic, and a clear understanding of the modern university to her or his work.

The Suffolk Provost Search Committee will evaluate the applicant pool during the winter of 2019. Although applications will be welcomed until the time that a new Provost is selected, candidates should submit materials by January 11th. The new Provost is expected to begin work by July 1, 2019.

Applications should include a letter of candidacy that responds to the agenda for leadership and the desired attributes for a new Provost outlined in the search profile at https://assets.storbeckpimentel.com/files/resources/suffolkuniv-provost-pd.pdf?5c0fb37baa8ac and a complete résumé or vita. All application materials will be considered in full confidence and should be submitted electronically to SuffolkProvost@storbecksearch.com.

Ms. Julie E. Tea, Partner, and Ms. Julie Williams-Krishnan, Senior Associate at Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates, LP are assisting Suffolk with this search. Nominators and prospective candidates are encouraged to contact them at SuffolkProvost@storbecksearch.com to arrange confidential conversations.
