Applications are invited for an open rank, full-time instructional faculty position in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at Temple University with a focus on creating innovative programs for online graduate education.

The Department of Computer and Information Sciences (CIS) at Temple University invites applications for the Director of CIS Online Graduate Education position.

The Director will lead the design, implementation, and management of innovative online programs that are attractive to a diverse range of prospective graduate students and prepare them for success in computing-related careers. The Director will develop and implement strategic plans and curriculum proposals for online education in the CIS department, will promote CIS online programs, develop course materials for CIS online programs, and train faculty in online CIS curriculum development. An ideal applicant will have a PhD degree in computer science (or a related discipline) and experience in developing and teaching online computer science courses.

This position is a non-tenure track 12-month academic appointment. Temple University offers competitive salaries and excellent benefits. The department has a growing and vibrant student population, with more than 1,000 undergraduate majors and over 100 graduate students enrolled in bachelor’s master’s, and doctoral degree programs. In addition to our flagship degrees in Computer Science and Information Science and Technology, we also offers several innovative programs that allow students to specialize in areas of computing, including degrees and certificates in Data Science, an interdisciplinary degree in Computer Science and Physics, and a certificate in Computer Security and Digital Forensics. MAJOR DUTIES

  • Develop and implement strategic plans and proposals for online graduate programs
  • Meet with chair and online learning committee to develop and revise plans for online graduate education
  • Work with IT Services to recommend and evaluate technologies relevant to online education
  • Coordinate recruiting events for online graduate programs
  • Create online course materials for use in online programs
  • Provide training for CIS faculty on best practices in online instruction
  • Provide professional development for faculty on pedagogical techniques and instructional technology for effective online education
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Computer and information science content knowledge
  • Knowledge of computer and information science graduate curriculum requirements
  • Knowledge of online learning principles and practices
  • Knowledge of Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines
  • Skill in decision making and problem solving
  • Skill in the completion of a variety of reports
  • Skill in oral and written communication

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in a course of study related to computer and information science
  • Experience in online course development and/or in teaching in an online environment, including assessment of student outcomes
  • Knowledge of current trends, techniques and tools involved in distance and online learning
  • Experience implementing distance-learning initiatives
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Strong work ethic with demonstrated collaborative and coordinative skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • An earned doctorate in computer and information science or education with an emphasis on computer science or from a regionally accredited institution of higher education
  • Five or more years directing complex projects and programs involving faculty, staff and students
  • Two or more years of experience in the development of online programs and courses, including instructional design, course development, and evaluation practices
  • Experience with budget management
  • Experience teaching online courses
  • Quality Matters credentialing
