Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Office for Institutional Equity and Diversity (OIED) is committed to fostering an inclusive, accessible, and diverse intellectual and cultural campus experience related to the mission of North Carolina State University (NC State). The OIED facilitates efforts to ensure equity and opportunity, increases awareness of diversity issues through education, and strengthens relationships across diverse groups. Through these efforts, the OIED promotes cultural competence development, thereby fostering a welcoming and respectful campus. By providing guidance, programming, and outreach to constituent groups and the community, and by adhering to accountability and compliance standards, the OIED prepares NC State students, faculty, and staff for local, state, national, and global collaboration. The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Center is one of four Campus Community Centers within OIED (also Women's Center, Multicultural Student Affairs, and the African-American Cultural Center). Its mission is to engage, develop, and empower members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender communities and their allies by working to create, maintain, and strengthen an inclusive and safe campus environment for people of all sexualities and gender identities. The Center envisions a campus where students, staff, faculty, and alumni feel a shared responsibility to increase their individual understanding of and comfort with diversity; to enhance their ability to connect with members of their own communities; to build coalitions across identity groups; and to work collaboratively to raise awareness, promote respect, and create a culture where they can advocate for equity, inclusion and social justice on behalf of themselves and others.

Essential Job Duties: The Director will provide overall administrative, operational, programming and fiscal direction for the GLBT Center. This position spearheads strategic planning, budget management, fund development and assessment for all center programs and services; supervises, develops and evaluates all center staff; identifies and addresses barriers to student success; serves on various university and community committees; and works with staff from all Centers to foster a safe, welcoming and nurturing environment for all students, with a particular focus on students from historically underrepresented and marginalized communities. The director will have a demonstrated passion for and mastery of outreach, education, student development, collaboration and advocacy. The director will serve as a dynamic liaison between OIED, the University community, and local GLBT community partners.

Minimum Education/Experience: - A Master's degree in a related discipline is required - At least five years of administrative and supervisory experience in higher education

Department Required Skills: 1) Extensive knowledge of the challenges facing students from various underrepresented and marginalized populations (e.g. GLBT, students with disabilities, students of color, first-generation, low-income, immigrant, tribal and indigenous communities) 2) Demonstrated history of evidence-based practice reflecting a commitment to diversity, inclusion and social justice 3) Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and assess short- and long-term strategic plans 4) Extensive experience with advising, student development, program development and assessment, public speaking, collaboration with campus and community partners, policy and practice advocacy, and consultation with students, staff and faculty 5) Extensive knowledge of the ways that sexual orientation and gender identity intersect with other identities to impact the lived experiences of members of the GLBT community 6) Experience developing and facilitating workshops on a wide range of diversity and cultural competence topics such as heterosexism, cissexism, racism, power and privilege, internalized oppression, intersectionality or micro-aggressions 7) Strong financial management experience, including budgeting, fundraising and/or grant-writing 8) Knowledge and experience developing marketing, promotional and public relations materials for university diversity initiatives 9) Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: 1) A Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Counselor Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related area of study 2) At least seven years of overall professional experience in a higher education setting with increasing levels of relevant administrative and supervisory experience 3) At least three years of relevant experience working with GLBT students in a higher education setting 4) Demonstrated success in fund development or grant management 5) Demonstrated skill and record of success in establishing good working relationships with students, staff, faculty and community partners 6) Extensive cultural programming and higher education programming experience 7) Extensive experience foregrounding intersectional social justice in programs and services 8) Demonstrated success attracting, hiring, developing and retaining talented professional staff 9) Knowledge of culturally competent practices and inclusive support services for students from various underrepresented and marginalized communities, especially those representing various gender identities and expressions 10) Experience developing learning outcomes and assessment tools for programs and events 11) Adept at navigating the issues and dynamics of a large, research-extensive university 12) Keen understanding of NC policies that impact the GLBTQA community 13) Ability to foster a strong sense of community for students, staff and other members of the campus and surrounding community 14) Strong understanding of and experience with addressing intersectionality of social identities, experiences and related systems of oppression, domination and discrimination 15) Strong organizational skills and attention to detail 16) Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions 17) Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends as needed 18) Proven ability to think and work independently and as a member of a team

Necessary Licenses and Certifications: Due to travel and transportation responsibilities, a NC Driver's License is required for this position and must be maintained as a condition of employment.
