Posting Summary:
The Center for the Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) in the Curry School of Education seeks highly qualified applicants for a Research Specialist Senior. This position is connected to an evaluation of a social and emotional learning program called RULER (Recognizing, Understanding, Labeling, Expressing, and Regulating emotions) in elementary schools. The Research Specialist Senior for this RULER efficacy study collaborates with the lead investigators (PI Jason Downer, co-PI Sara Rimm-Kaufman), coordinates with the RULER implementation team, organizes and manages day-to-day operations of the project, coordinates training activities at schools, manages project teams including staff and students, engages in data management, and oversees data collection efforts. Incumbent also serves as the liaison between the on-site data collection team, school district project participants, and off-site program developers, as well as assists with dissemination efforts including preparing project findings for publication and presentations.

A master's degree in education, psychology, or related field is required. A terminal degree is preferred and may substitute for experience. A minimum of three years' experience in school-based study design and implementation is required. Substantive knowledge in the field of social-emotional learning is also required. Ability to work cooperatively within an interdisciplinary team and to train and direct the work of others is essential. Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are a must. Knowledge of Microsoft (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word) and knowledge of statistical software (e.g., SPSS) is required. Knowledge of classroom observation systems, and student assessments, experience managing a project team, and basic qualitative and quantitative analytical skills are preferred.

Position requires travel to Fairfax, VA up to twice a month plus possible lengthier visits (up to four nights approximately) twice per year.
