Working Hours: POSITION AVAILABLE: One regular, part-time position, 10 hours per week, 12 months per year on the Oceanside campus and the El Corazon Senior Center. The work schedule may require flexible days and flexible hours, including evenings, Monday through Friday. The person selected for this position will primarily be assigned to classes at the Community Learning Center, but may be subject to assignment to any district facility during any hours of operation.

Basic Function and Other Details:
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the general supervision of a certificated health and safety instructor, provide instructional, clerical, and occasionally physical assistance to students and instructors in noncredit health classes such as Balance and Mobility; assist in the preparation of instructional materials and maintain classroom records; set up and demonstrate use of specialized fitness equipment; assist the instructor in maintaining the safety of the classroom environment; and perform related duties as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:
An Instructional Aide is distinguished from an Instructional Assistant in that an incumbent in the latter class plays a more active role in supporting the instructional environment for students by providing tutoring to students, setting up and demonstrating the safe operation, use and care of equipment, instruments and supplies used in a lab, studio or shop, and by assisting faculty in developing learning activities and classroom and laboratory assignments.

Representative Duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this class.
1. Administer and/or assist in testing students and scoring tests; assist in the enrollment and placement of students into classes; assist in monitoring and recording student progress.
2. Perform clerical and record-keeping duties such as taking and entering attendance into records, completing forms and applications, making copies of instructional materials, correcting papers and assignments, recording test scores and grades, and preparing monthly and end-of-term reports.
3. Set up and remove class/lab equipment; demonstrate use of teaching aids and/or equipment to students. OTHER DUTIES:
1. Assist students in a computer lab in using computers and the internet to complete classroom assignments.
2. Tutor students individually or in groups, reinforcing or following up on instructions provided by the instructor; explain concepts, principles and vocabulary to students.
3. Maintain inventories of instructional materials; check materials in and out to students.
4. Perform related duties as assigned.

Type of Benefits:
COMPENSATION: Based on the 2018-2019 classified salary schedule, the starting salary for this position will be $915 per month (range 10, step 1), including vacation, sick leave, holiday pay, and enrollment in a retirement system.

Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
To be eligible for this position, you must meet and provide evidence of the following minimum qualifications:
Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and at least one year of general experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. IMPORTANT: For work experience, one "year" is defined as equivalent to 40 hours per week for 12 months, or at least 2,080 hours.

Desirable Qualifications:
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Previous experience working with students/clients in a physical fitness setting; 2. Willingness to physically support and stabilize students as needed and to ensure their safety; 3. Basic knowledge of the human body, as it relates to physical fitness
